Hi!
A little background on Design by D9. My name is Deneen. I was named after an Ivory soap commercial from wayyyyy back in the day. I have met a few other Deneens over the years, and they are all spelled a little differently: Denean, Denene, Daneen etc… You get the picture. My grandmother on my mother’s side spelled my name wrong in every card she ever gave to me, for my entire life… Pretty crazy huh? She spelled it like this: Denine. My two amazing nieces: Holly and Melissa, thought this was pretty hysterical. According to them, that isn’t even Deneen, it’s D9! From that point on I signed my name on all of my cards and emails as D9. So when I was trying to come up with a name for my website, I thought that Design by D9 was rather catchy. So, there you have it!
I live in beautiful Victoria BC Canada, and am super proud to be Canadian. And yes I love Tim Horton’s. And it’s true what they say about us, We really do apologize for everything. Sorry!

Greg and Deneen in Mexico in 2014
I live with my partner Greg and our fur-family: Sage our Papillon and Angus, our tabby cat.
Greg is a plumber, which is a good thing. But have you ever heard of a bus-man’s holiday? Probably not, because it’s a pretty dated phrase. But the gist of it is that a plumber isn’t really going to want to do plumbing on his day off. And let me assure you that is so true! But, he usually pulls through when I need him to. If all else fails, I offer to do the plumbing myself. That usually scares him into doing it 😉
Fur Babies
We have only had our dog Sage, since September 17 of 2016, and I love her more than I can even articulate. She is the most amazing and funny little dog, I love her so much. Go to my fur-babies section to read more about my fur-family.Fur Babies
Travel
I have had the privilege and pleasure to do a bit of travelling. In 2004 I visited Turkey, Greece and Egypt with my buddy Julie. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. In 2008, I got to spend a month in Italy, visiting my niece Holly, who was living there at the time. I hope to be able to do more travelling in the future. My niece and her family now live in Edinburgh, so hopefully I’ll make my way there in the next few years!
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts. Which means that I spent 4 years at college and university, painting, sculpting, drawing and doing all of the other mandatory requirements for my degree, and then I went to work for the Province of British Columbia. I have spent wayyyyyyy too many years sitting in a cube. Most of those were spent in the Ministry of Environment, in the areas of finance and facilities. I wish that I had managed to end up in a more creative job, but sometimes (most of the time) life just happens… So now I am blogging as an outlet for my creative tendencies.
I have wanted to do a blog for a couple of years. I love to work on projects, particularly home improvement and DIY projects. It is more fun, when you can share the process with others. I have learned so much from other people’s posts, I thought it would be fabulous to share what I have learned as well. Plus, let’s not kid ourselves there is something very self-indulgent about posting stuff for the world to see, isn’t there? But mostly it’s because what is the point in learning all of this stuff if I can’t share it with someone else who is trying to accomplish the same things? That is why I share the lessons that I learn along the way. I’m not above making mistakes, and it’s better if I make them, so you don’t have to!
I love to renovate, and I love to move. My mother instilled that in me, she liked to move pretty frequently, plus she was a realtor. Once she actually sold her own house, and only informed my Dad when she came home after work. I don’t think he got out of bed for a week . My Dad doesn’t like change. Sadly, I lost my Mom to lung cancer in July of 2013, and I still miss her every day, she was such an amazing person, who taught me so many things. She would have LOVED this blog!
Thanks for stopping by, I will try and keep this entertaining and informative.
